I should add that I had no clue of what Catholics really taught about Mary and was aware of many things others said that Catholics believed and taught about Mary but I couldn't see that anyone would believe some of the wrong headed things being said of Catholics. I was essentially ambivalent and as the song says, couldn't see anything wrong with her.

You were "there", "back then" so you may recall my story of the Rosary being something of a gateway into learning what Catholics actually taught. Once I knew what was authentic teaching on Mary I moved from ambivalence to a slow burning veneration.

I'm grateful for the intercession of Mary, at work on your behalf, helping clear the clouds of untruth perhaps even before you knew she was praying for you.

Interesting to hear that Mary wasn't a problem for you in your beforedays. My wrong understanding of what Catholics believed and practiced in regard to Mary was the one piece that kept me away from the Church more than any other. When it was revealed to me that the Truth I had been looking for for so many years was found in the Catholic Church, it was doctrine regarding Mary I had to first investigate. Once I realized everything I thought I knew about Catholics and Mary was wrong, everything else fell into place.

Thank you, Mother, for your patience with me. Thank you, brother Jesus, for leading me to her. (And brother Owen for suggesting back then that I ask Jesus to lead me to her.)

Hi Renee, I'm thinking we experience community best when we have that base of the assurance of His acceptance. In turn, true community would help us develop that assurance as iron sharpens he group of people I hang out with on Plurk is quite good for a virtual "community".

Maybe what you desire is "community". That is what blogging in the true sense does for me. Not so much human respect, but community. We are not meant to be alone!

Thanks my brother. My question in the post is more rhetorical these days than not, thankfully but I welcome and "receive" ;-) that affirmation of yours all the same. God bless you.

I'm struggling with this question less and less. Partly because I recognize the depths of Christ's love more and more, but also because I recognize community affirmation isn't evil. It's a problem when we ask it to do what only Jesus can do. However, receiving our value and Affirmation from God, knowing we are loved by others is a good thing.

Owen, you are loved, by Jesus and by me. I know you didn't write this post to get me to say that, but it won't stop me from using the occasion to voice what has always been.

I'd record some of my music, but as I lead worship in an ecumenical group and therefore play music that has no place at holy mass, it might be worse than the stuff you're trying to get out of your ears.

It's really about place, isn't it? At least, much of it is about place - some of the music is just plain bad - but mostly the problem is that we don't stop to think whether the ditty we love so much fits the situation. That, and we're so fired up to Try New Things that we lack the patience to wait for or create the New Thing that is any good.
