Portrait #14

This is portrait #14 of the 40, now completed, portraits that comprise the single work of art. Details on the installation and show date when I have them myself.

By my count there are still 15 finished portraits to post. Also, changes coming to this site as I will be merging owenswain.com/1/ with this one owenswain.com/2/. I’ll do my best to make that as smooth as possible for the rss subscribed folks and whatever existing links are out there will redirect.

#23 of the 40 now completed, portraits that comprise the single work of art yet to be installed.

Today I have finished installing half the paintings and am moving on to the next. Tomorrow work will stand still as I have a day procedure scheduled. Then, God willing, I’ll be back at it Thursday.

Portrait #7

This is portrait #7 of the 40, now completed, portraits that comprise the single work of art yet to be installed.

There is a tentative plan to have someone, not me, design a web experience that will be somewhat interactive and include an Artist’s Statement that I hope with provide something to ponder without overly dictating to the viewer. I’ll be moving on to other commission work as soon as this is installed so that web experience will not be created by me, however I hope to post a photo of the installed work on this blog and get all the images in a single gallery.

Portrait #37

Attentive guests are saying, wait, you showed us 37 yesterday. True. However, in my original sketches I had the one shown above in position 37. When I was laying everything out yesterday, after the post, I decided that I was right in the first place and undid the change. Now, 37 and 38 are restored and it’s a good call when you see all 40 together.

Portrait #38

Here’s -#37- of the 40, now completed, portraits that comprise the single work of art I’ve been at for months. [Update - see the placement correction here]

Earlier in the week I went to Rona feeling well out of my environment but where the ‘lumber-guy’ listened attentively to the needs of my project, made great suggestions and helped select the wood, the right length and diameter of screws for proper load bearing and depth and such-like, then he cut the pieces to size and sent me trundling off to the ‘paint-guy’ who helped me pick the right primer and made suggestions between egg-shell or gloss or flat finishes while I chose my colour.

Now, the whole of it is laid out on the floor as I position the individual pieces, laying them out in an artsy manner. Then comes painting, drilling, screwing the stuff on. I might even be able to say, it is done-done by Sunday.

Portrait #39

I am now finished the painting portion. I now have to mount all 40 portraits on a single board and prep it for installation.  This is #39 of the 40 portraits that comprise the single work of art I have been commissioned to create. Each portrait is 8×8 inches and the overall piece comes in at 3 feet by about 8 feet.

I’ll continue to post the remaining portraits, one a day until all of the 40 but one are shown on the blog. Why will one remain missing? Can’t say, just yet.

To those who are, thanks bunches for continuing to follow along. To those recently joining the portrait parade, thanks also.

Portrait #17

This is #21 of the 40 portraits that comprise the single work of art I have been commissioned to create. Each portrait is 8×8 inches and the overall piece comes in at 3 feet by about 8 feet. Some folks, naturally, are asking what the final will be. Without being cheeky, it will be 40 portraits that comprise a single work of art. I can’t give much away or I’ll potentially spoil the effect on seeing the whole for the first time.

That said, once it’s out there, I will offer a minimal explanation and hope that the viewer will engage their mind and heart.

Thanks for your pluses, likes, tweets and comments. It all helps keeps me going.

Portrait #19

There are a few I am holding back because together they make the message and they need to be seen as a part of the whole. Even so, I’m sure it will bother some folks and be misunderstood by others but art should challenge and I have finally come to the place where I am willing to risk that.

This is #19 of the 40 portraits that comprise the single work of art I have been commissioned to create. Each portrait is 8×8 inches and the overall piece comes in at 3 feet by about 8 feet.

#26 of the 40 portraits that comprise the single work of art I have been commissioned to create. Each portrait is 8×8 inches and the overall piece comes in at 3 feet by about 8 feet.

Some are or become more of a challenge that others. This one must be a reluctant saint because she gave me a run for it to be sure.
