I spent a good portion of the day, Sunday out in the county at the John R Park Homestead with members of the Windsor & Essex County Plein Air Society. Yes, after seemingly eons of missed dates I finally got to be with this great group of artists. Tony was among the many displaying period workmanship at during the four hour long Blueberry Social and Lost Arts Festival. The challenge was in drawing moving subjects. The perfect pose was struck and restruck only to be lost again because these are not models they are folks hard at the fun of enjoying their craft, not to mention the general public getting ‘in the way’ (as they are supposed to do) as they vie to see what’s going on. I love the challenge!
Tony and I even managed to get in a little chit chat while I drew him. You can see his craft here.
Again, I was so happy to finally meet up with some of the folks of the local Plein Air Society and I look forward to getting to work/play with them again and to learn, share and grow.

I love drawing people out in the world where I am. Anywhere. Mostly they are sitting still or at most eating. Or talking with their hands flying. You did a great capture of this guy working at his craft! I feel like I can see his arms, hands and shoulders moving in your drawing! Glad you had so much fun doing this.
Lynn, thanks for the comment. I have a drawing coming up where the man’s hands were flying like crazy. Twice as he listened to someone he folded his arms so that’s when I made my capture. Had a peek at your blog and yes, you do love to draw people in many settings. Good on you.
Your rendering of Tony turned out very well.
Thanks. It’s just a lot of fun and it’s fun to be finally having some fun again
And thanks for sharing the link to Tony’s work. He does good things with those hands.
and, if I am not mistaken, I believe I overheard him mentioning to someone that his work is made from found wood, stuff no one wants anymore or left overs from tree cuttings.
Hi Owen!
It was so great to finally get to meet you. We hope to see more of your smiling face in the upcoming paint outs. I love your loose lines, and great sense of colour. I’m subscribed to your updates and while I may not post a lot, I enjoy getting them.
Cheers,
