When a loved one dies “before their time”
and no one tells us,
Time heals…
When we are pressed in, overwhelmed
and no one says,
God never gives us more than we can handle
When we are grieving beyond the vale
and no one says,
I understand exactly how you feel
When two lovers hold hands and heart
and neither says,
anything at all
When we don’t say, I’ll pray for you,
but in secret we do pray
When our child dies
and no one says,
She’s in a better place now
When they do not say
I’ll pray for you
but before their Father, in secret, they do pray for you
When no one presumes, patronizes, plagiarizes or pontificates
the little silence makes the world richer.

Thank you. Very much.
Thank you, Lucy.
I like this one. You’re on to something here. Beautifully expressed.
Joyce, thanks.
We lost our son to brain cancer a year and a half ago and when I heard those words from people – you are so right-they were hard to hear although we knew people were trying to speak the unspeakable. Thank you for this poem.
Thank you, Kathleen, for your words.
I am sorry for the loss of your son and pray for the repose of his soul.
Lucy, Joyce, Kathleen,
Wanted to let you know that this http://owenswain.com/2/little-silences/ and all my poems along with a good deal more writing are on my alternate site owenswain.com/2/ otherwise known as ““. I don’t get it but the traffic there has far and away surpassed this site.
I will continue with both sites but this original one will move to almost entirely art.
